A note to my customers

A note to my customers

I think I’m going to withdraw the free male newbie starter kit from XStreet and the mall. It’s a little… disheartening when your freebie items are pretty much the only things people ‘buy’. :-/

Before Christmas, the store went for nine days with that newbie kit the only thing being taken. Yes, it’s nice to offer something free that helps male newbie avatars out, but it’s also not the greatest of feelings for any content creator (especially one that actually underprices his items because he doesn’t want to over-charge for his work) when they see nothing in their sales list but ‘freebie’, ‘freebie’, ‘freebie’.

My prices are hardly ‘break the bank’ as you’ll see if you take the time to browse this blog, my XStreet account, or even come and visit the mall inworld. But I’m beginning to understand why many content creators are withdrawing freebies. We offer them, not only as free gifts, but also in the hope that people might stick around, check out the rest of our items, like what they see,Ā and maybe spend a few L$. But lately, people just TP in, grab the freebie, then TP right out again within seconds.

No matter how well-priced your items are, how well-made, how well laid-out; you’re never going to turn those freebie-grabbers into customers if they just wait long enough for that freebie to rez, grab it, then run.

Yeah, It’s very, very disheartening.

A merry christmas from us both

Musings: “But… where’s the door?!”

“Where’s the door?”

“I can’t get in!”

“How do I add a door?”

These are some of the variants on questions I sometimes get asked about my skyboxes. The answers can be found behind the cut.

Musings: A return from hiatus

Having taken a few weeks away from building, I’m back in the swing of things.

Last month’s Freebie of the Month (the mini-Arrr!Bor) will remain in the store until the end of September, at which time I will switch it out for a new freebie, so it’s still available to grab if you’ve not snagged it yet.

I’m currently working on a large new skybox: the bigger (40×30) version of the Castle Skybox that so many people seem to enjoy (and which I’ve just realised – horrors! – I haven’t put on this blog!) This larger version is one that I originally built on our home parcel a long time ago, before I learned how to align prims properly, and I’m now re-making it as a sale item. It has three floors, a dungeon, three large split-level rooms with sleeping platforms, and a small kitchen area. Once inside, this fully-enclosed skybox forms an ideal roleplaying or living environment, and will be sold as the Gentleman’s Study set is: in various sets, to include the fully-furnished skybox, skybox alone, furniture alone, and decor alone. There are also several items available in the Gentleman Bastards Mini-Mall that will suit the build extremely well, including my partner’s great low-cost Medieval Hearth/Gorean Servery Beginners Kit, at just 25L$

Look out for this new Castle Skybox both here on the blog, on SLX, and at the store inworld, in the next couple of weeks!

Musings: Domicile now on SL Exchange*!

I’ve finally got around to loading up the SL Exchange* Magic Box that I’ve had for about two weeks, so you can now buy from DomicileĀ @ SLX*. Don’t forget, though, to visit the store, as the Freebies of the Month won’t be going up on SL Exchange*…

*ETA: SL Exchange has now been renamed, in the light of Linden Lab’s trademark guidelines, and is now called Xstreet SL.

Musings: The Biz Owner Network

Thanks to a post on the Resident Answers section of the Second Life forums, a group of inworld designers have formed their own group – Biz Owner Network – and are working together to improve each others’ marketing and other business skills. Among other things, we are visiting each others’ stores and giving feedback on presentation, store design, prices, logos, and anything else we think might help. To that end, many of us are adding each others’ stores to our blogroll, which is what I will be doing here once I have finished writing this post.

The original thread can be found here, if you’re interested in following it or joining in: Advice on sales!!

Musings: Updates forthcoming

It’s slow going, addingĀ a backlog of items to a blog, just as it’s slow going adding them to places such as SL Exchange and onrez. Rest assured, though, that a flurry of new Primflints & Domicile items will soon be hitting the blog, including skyboxes, fireplaces, furniture and other little oddities. Until then, I shall scurry back into Photoshop!

Primflints & Domicile

A range of skyboxes for those with little space and too few prims. Typically 3-storeys high and less than 70 prims.

Homes, furnishings, and garden living.
